By browsing, creating an account, or renting a book through Arcane Library, you agree to the terms below. You don't need an account to browse the catalog — only to rent a book.
Renting requires an active membership plan (Lumina, Celestia, Crystaline, or Eclipse). Plans bill monthly and renew automatically until cancelled. Each plan sets how many books you can hold at once, and the maximum cover price you can rent up to.
You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel your membership at any time from your account, with no lock-in period. See our Refund Policy for what happens to fees you've already paid.
Depending on your location, you can choose to have a book delivered to your address or collected from a pickup point. Delivery times and pickup availability vary by location.
Is it legal to buy books and rent them out? Under Section 14 of the Copyright Act, 1957, a copyright owner's exclusive rights over a literary work include the right to issue copies of the work "not being copies already in circulation." Once a physical copy of a book has been lawfully purchased, that copy is in circulation — and unlike computer programs, sound recordings, and cinematograph films, the Act does not grant the publisher of a literary work a separate, exclusive commercial rental right over that copy. This is the same principle that has long allowed public libraries and book-rental shops in India to lend or rent out physical copies they own, without needing separate permission from the publisher for each copy. We only rent out copies we have lawfully purchased ourselves — we don't reproduce, scan, or redistribute digital copies of any book.
This explanation is general information, not formal legal advice. If you're relying on this for your own business, please have it confirmed by a qualified intellectual property lawyer.
